I’ve got a very rare trip coming up early next month into Las Vegas for a five day convention. It has been a really long time since I flew in there. Considering, parking, fuel pricing, and ease of getting to the strip, which of the three airports would you frequent fliers to the area recommend? Thanks in advance!

Richard,

Costing is the same at Henderson and North Las Vegas. North Las Vegas KVGT knows the MU2 well as I am in and out of there multiple times per month. Distance to the strip is the same and Downtown is best from KVGT. Good folks.

No good reason to go to McCarran except for delays and high priced fuel!

KVGT by far. The fuel is about $3 per gallon cheaper. The line service had the cab at curbside by the time I got there. There is also a rental car counter (Enterprise) I believe should you want to go that route.

Henderson is the easiest to get into and back out. Just South of
International. Good FBO, usually good fuel prices (at least during last
NBAA) and about a $50.00 cab ride to the strip.

Im with Don on this one, khnd is a great place, easy in and out and as close a drive the strip as kvgt is. Its a much nicer facilty and cleaner side of town altogether. Pricing about the same either way. On Mar 14, 2014 1:00 PM, "Donald Taylor" <djt13@comcast.net (djt13@comcast.net)> wrote:Quote:

For what it is worth, I previously used VGT until I went to HND for the first time… never been back to VGT since then. The main reason was safety. I can have an extra ~1500 feet of runway at KHND and there is a lot less congestion at the end of the runways if something bad happened at the wrong second. Taking off out of VGT at 114* runway temperature compared to HND makes me love the extra runway at HND. Time and cost to get to the strip was about the same between both options but I prefer the drive from HND (better part of town and quick as mostly freeway driving). Fuel cost is the same between the two airports so I’d opt for more runway and options at HND.

The only caveat is that if you arrive from the east like I do ATC will route you right over the top of a ridge and then try to dump you ASAP. Since I’m almost always coming in at night, I end up with a bit of a circling “slam dunk” at night under VFR. You have LAS bravo nearby so that results in a lot of maneuvering taking place at the end of long flight (at least long for me from MI!). Other than that, I think HND is superior in just about every way.
